Louise Carney Ament
Louise Carney Ament was born on Massey St. in Atlanta, Texas on
January 23, 1911. She was the youngest daughter of Judge Hugh Carney and
Willie Matthews Carney.
Mrs. Ament attended Centenary College and graduated from East Texas
Baptist University. She taught school in Atlanta before retiring in
1976.
Mrs. Ament joined the First Baptist Church in 1924. She was a member of
Zeta Tau Alpha sorority was a past president of the Atlanta Woman’s
Club.
She is survived by her son John S. Ament and his wife Beverly of
Jacksonville; her daughter Jane King and her husband Buddy of Arlington,
Texas; her grandsons, Jeremy Ament and his wife Linley of Fayetteville,
Arkansas and Jason Ament of Hickory, North Carolina; her granddaughter,
Mary Louise Hughes and her husband Kenneth of Waco and her
great-grandson Preston King Hughes as well as a number of nieces and
nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 14 at First Baptist Church
in Atlanta with Rev. Wes Chambers officiating. Burial will follow in the
Pine Crest Cemetery in Atlanta, Texas.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday evening at Hanner Funeral
Home in Atlanta.
Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Public Library or to the First
Baptist Church of Atlanta.
