Graveside services for Thelma Neal Smith, 89, of Rusk are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 in Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Don Copeland officiating under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk. Mrs. Smith died Jan. 6, 2008 in a Tyler Hospice. She was born Aug. 14, 1918 in Maydelle to Louis and Lottie Neal. Mrs. Smith lived in Rusk with her late husband Elbert most of her life. She retired from Rusk State Hospital in 1982 after 21 years of service. She lived in Tyler for the past 6 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rusk. She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Elbert Smith; daughter-in-law, Paula Smith; and sister Opal Allen. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Charles W. and Mary Smith of Bullard; granddaughter, Stacy Smith of Magnolia; step-grandson, Kent Peters of Rusk; sister, Maxine Scott of Tyler; plus, several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith died Jan. 6. She was born August 14, 1918, in Maydelle to Louis and Lottie Neal.

Mrs. Smith lived in Rusk most of her life. She retired from Rusk State Hospital in 1982 after 21 years of service. She lived in Tyler for the past six years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rusk.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 42 years Elbert Smith; daughter-in-law, Paula Smith; and sister Opal Allen.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Charles W. and Mary Smith of Bullard; granddaughter, Stacy Smith of Magnolia; step-grandson, Kent Peters of Rusk; sister, Maxine Scott of Tyler; great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
