Lucy Garner Slater

 

Graveside services for Lucy Garner Slater, 96, of Jacksonville, formerly of Texarkana, are scheduled for 12 p.m. Saturday at Parks Cemetery in Scott County near Nola, Ark. Mrs. Slater died Sept. 24, 2008 in a Tyler hospital. She was born Sept. 11, 1912 in Gravelly, Ark. to the late Otho and Ola Montgomery Garner. Formerly of Plainview, Arkansas and Texarkana, Mrs. Slater moved to Jacksonville in 1951 where she was an active member of The Order of Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Bradley Slater and daughter, Susie Chapa. Survivors include a niece, Melba Westbrook, of Dallas; great nephews, Kim Westbrook and Brad Westbrook; son-in-law John Chapa, of San Angelo; grandchildren, Monica, Slater and Marcus; seven great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grand nephews and one great-great-grand niece. Arrangements are with Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens. If desired memorials may be made to Order of Eastern Star, Jacksonville or First United Methodist Church, Plainview, Ark.
