HAZEL DENMAN SESSIONS

 

Funeral for Hazel Denman Sessions, 81, of Rusk was at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mount Pleasant CME Church with the Rev. Greenie Phillips, the Rev. Donnie Timmons, the Rev. Travis McGowan and the Rev. Jeremy Foreman officiating.

Burial was in Rusk Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Sessions died Jan. 18. She was born Nov. 19, 1927, to Frank Harrison and Luella Abraham Harrison in Trinity, Houston County. She was reared from the age of two by her mother and step-father, Oscar B. Denman Sr.

She attended the Rusk colored school and belonged as a child to the Holly Springs CME Church. When she moved to Rusk she joined the Mount Pleasant CME Church. She operated the Blue Light Cafe in Rusk for many years, She retired from Rusk State Hospital, where she was employed as the superintendent's private maid and in housekeeping.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Thurman Sessions; four sisters, Vergie Williams, Lovie Cook, Irene Ross and Lucille Foreman; and four brothers, Willie B. Harrison, Delbert Harrison, Earnest Denman and Oscar B. Denman Jr. Survivors are two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley Clark and Maxine and Walter Session, all of Rusk; a sister, Elizabeth Rivers of Rusk; a brother, Charles Denman of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Jean Denman of Tyler; uncles, Authur Harrison of Alto and Willie Wilmore of Corsicana; four grandchildren,Kimberly Clark of Arkansas, Daphne Session of Crockett, Terrie Franklin and husband, Floyd, Kathy Harris; a god grandchild, Shunnon Ratcliff of Rusk; eight great-grandchildren, Krystal Ward-Carter and husband, Marcus of Houston, Reginald McGowan II and wife Vivian of Lufkin, Charmell Franklin, Darrell Franklin, Tiffani McGowan, Jasmine Harris, Eddie Harris of Rusk; a god great-grandson, Cody Glenn of Nebraska; four greatgreat grandchildren, Triniti Smalls, Destyne Harris, Eddie D'Wayne Harris and Makayla Glenn; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Darren Franklin, Reginald Joel McGowan II, Donald Foreman, Floyd Franklin, Cody Glenn, Tyrome Williams, Eddie Walter Harris, Kenneth Denman and Marcus Carter. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Session, Ray Ross, Reginald McGowan Sr., Gary Hill and stewards of the Mount Pleasant CME Church.

Community Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
