REV. DR. DOYLE RILEY
A celebration of life for the Rev. Dr. Doyle Riley, 80, of Conroe, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Adams Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gloria Jennings and the Rev. Charles Nunnally officiating.
Dr. Riley died Nov. 12. He was born Oct. 7, 1928, to the late Rev. J. W. Riley and Lassie B. Riley, and was a fourth generation Methodist pastor. He was licensed to preach in 1950 and served churches in New Mexico and Texas Conferences of the United Methodist Church until his retirement in 1991.
In June 1985, he was appointed to serve as pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Rusk, and later, at Adams Chapel United Methodist Church. He served those churches until June 1988.
Dr. Riley was active in the communities he served, holding many community leadership positions including past president of the chamber of commerce, member of the Masonic Lodge for many years, past grand chaplain of Masons, member and past worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and member of the board of directors of Rotary International.
Upon retirement to Florida, he continued to serve where needed in churches in Florida. He was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Navy. He earned degrees from Sul Ross State University, the American Bible Institute in Kansas City and Scarritt College in Nashville.
Dr. Riley is survived by his wife of 31 years Judith Riley of Conroe; three sons, Jonathan Riley and wife Angela of Kingwood, Charles Riley and wife Lacey of Flower Mound, and William Riley and wife Linda Carroll of New York, N.Y.; a daughter, Ruth Riley of Cimarron, N.M.; sisters, Margaret Greenhill of Pensacola, Fla. and Faye Funk of Odessa; a brother, John Riley of Austin; two grandchildren, Jennifer Riley of New York, N.Y. and Seann Riley of Austin.
