OPAL SMITH RAILTON

Graveside services for Opal Smith Railton, 84, of Jacksonville was at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Sadler officiating. Mrs. Railton died May 14. She was born on the family farm in New Summerfield Feb. 28, 1924, the youngest of seven children to Stephen Elzie and Ida Elizabeth Dosier Smith. She graduated from New Summerfield High School and Lon Morris College. She lived in Dallas for the next 52 years. After attending Draughns Business School, she worked for the Pillsbury Co. and American Petroleum Institute. She worked for API until she was 70 and the Dallas office closed. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elton E. Smith who was a father figure to her, Edgar (Curley) Smith and William Smith; sisters Alpha Lear Smith Way and Jewel Smith Tanner; and great nephew, Michael Joe Smith.

Survivors are one sister, Marjorie Smith Hurt of Odessa; and nieces and nephews, Joe Smith and wife Betty Lou of New Summerfield, Joe Hurt of Kingwood, Steve Hurt of Odessa, Myers R. (Bob) Hurt and wife Patti of Plano, Junior Smith and wife of Tyler; great-nieces, Rebbecca Smith Fink and husband Michael of Henderson, Robin Alice Hurt of Kingwood and Hallie Hurt of Odessa; great-nephews, Stephen Hurt, Kingwood, Sam Hurt, Odessa, Ben and Robby Hurt of Plano; and great-great niece, Cheyenne Fink of Henderson. Autry Funeral Home was in charge.
