John Martin Graveside services for John Martin, 62,
of Rusk, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, in Resthaven
Cemetery in Jacksonville, with the Rev. Don Copeland and Bishop Gary
Murray officiating, under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home
in Rusk. Mr. Martin died Dec. 28, 2007, in a Jacksonville hospital. He
was born Nov. 19, 1945, in Phoenix, Ariz., to John Callaway and Mary Ava
Riddle Martin. Mr. Martin was a resident of Rusk for 27 years, formerly
of Houston. He retired from Texas Department of Criminal Justice on the
Hodge Unit in Rusk. He owned and operated J.A. Martin Construction in
Rusk for 25 years. Mr. Martin was also a substitute postal carrier in
Rusk for several years. Preceded in death by his father, John C. Martin;
his brother, Jay Sadler; and his daughter, April L. Martin Nunley. He is
survived by his wife of 34 years, Wanda Martin of Rusk; his mother, Mary
Sadler of Jacksonville; his son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Maggie
Martin of Rusk; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Tonya Perkins and
John Smoot of Temple and Amanda and Sammy Hernandez of Rusk; eight
grandchildren and numerous cousins. Pallbearers include Aaron Martin,
John Smoot, Lee Baker, Sammy Hernandez, Larry Butcher, Phil Kosted,
David Evans, Edward Reid and Randy Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be
Tim Reed. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1,
2008, at the funeral home.
