MILLIE ANN PATTON JARRATT

 

Funeral for Millie Ann Patton Jarratt, 100, was at 11 a.m Feb. 13 in Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home chapel.

Graveside service and burial were at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at Jacksonville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Jarratt died Feb. 10. She was born Sept. 30, 1908, at Ironton to Chester A. and Nell Horton Patton. Mrs. Jarratt was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Bill and Letha Patton, T.B. Patton, Homer and Lucille Patton; Melvin and Puella Patton C.A. (Pat) Patton; sister and brother-in-law, Fay and Ferrell Harris; step-mother, Marie Meador Patton; her husband of 34 years, Wade Jarratt; her son, Gary Jarratt and stepson, Henry Morris (Sonny) Jarratt; step brothers, Ira and Jimmy Meador.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis Neal and Ruth Jarratt of Kemah, Ralph and Ruth L. Jarratt of Conroe,; and daughter-in-law, Kellene Jarratt of Houston; seven grandchildren, Jim Jarratt of Arlington, Linda Baker of Edgewater, Fla., Laura Faulkner of Austin, Holly Hackett of Seabrook, Catherine Jarratt of Kilgore, Steven Jarratt of Conroe and Joshua Jarratt of Austin; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.

Mrs. Jarratt grew up in the small farming community of Ironton.

At a very early age she began working in her uncle Wesley's tomato packing shed. Over the years she became the fastest packer in Jacksonville.

In 1934 she married Wade Jarratt and the family lived in the Jacksonville area where she taught school until 1938 when they relocated to Houston. She worked as a clerk at Foley's Department Store during the war and as a clerk at the Capitol Pharmacy in downtown Houston after the war. She sold Avon and was active in the PTA at Burnet elementary school and the Cub Scouts. She and her husband operated JD's grocery store and later a restaurant. She worked for a number of years at Jones Apothecary and at the White Oak and Berry Road Pharmacies until her retirement at 79. Local arrangements were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.
