Mr. Gus Brown

Mr. Gus Brown, 80 of Jacksonville , TX. went to be with the Lord Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at East Texas Medical Center in Jacksonville, TX. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove, Texas. The Rev. Larry Blain will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Allens Point Cemetery north of Honey Grove. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to services. Pallbearers will be employees of East Texas Utilities Service, Ronnie Rogers, Jimmy Cantrell, Tim Guinn, Lowell Stagner, Mark Hayes, Ed Gray, Billy Gore, Steve Eckert and Kenneth Berry. Honorary Pallbearers will be other employees of East Texas Utilities Service. Mr. Brown was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Electra, TX. to Clemmie Lee Brown and Vera Alene Melton Brown. He married Bobbie Weaver Jan. 25, 1952, at Durant, Okla., and was of the Baptist Faith. Gus graduated from Honey Grove High School with the Class of 1946. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Philippines. In 1950 he went to work for R.B. Stovall, which later became Chapman Construction Company for 25 years. He worked a short time for J.L. Utilities Company in Edgewood, TX. He formed his own company, East Texas Utilities Service, in September 1979. He retired in 1992 leaving the company to his wife, Bobbie, but he continued to be active in the company serving as Chairman of the Board and a consultant. He also was a member of the Elk Lodge and the V.F.W. He leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Bobbie Brown of the home; sons, Randy Gus Brown of Jacksonville and Russell Keith Brown of Tyler; grandchildren, Jill, Tyler, and Brittany Brown of Tyler; brothers, Bobby Ray and Pricilla Ann Brown of Haslett and Bill and Cindi Brown of Irving; sisters, Peggy Simmons of Sherman and Jan and Jimmy Isbel of Colleyville; aunts, Wilma Dell Genovesi of Dallas and Tommie Jo Crain of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.
