Randy Layne

Services for Randy Layne, 70, of Mixon, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel.

Masonic graveside rites will be conducted at Mixon Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home.

Mr. Layne died Feb. 10, 2007 in Tyler.

He was born Nov. 8, 1936 in Smith County, Texas.

Mr. Layne bred and raised horses and was an accomplished horse trainer. He was a member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge 53 AF and AM, Sharon Temple, Scottish Rite, was a past president and a current director of the East Texas Appaloosa Horse Association, was a charter member of the Smith County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse and was a past member of the Rose City Motorcycle Club. He was a member of Mixon Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Martha Oldham Layne; brothers Edward, C.O. and James Oliver Layne and sisters Delores Layne Edwards and Wilma Layne Hooker.

Mr. Layne is survived by his wife of 40 years Frances Layne of Mixon; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark R. and Cheryl Lane and John Kirby and Rachel Layne; daughters and sons-in-law Cindy and Terry Mathis, Pam Layne, Georgia and Dan Day and Randa Conner; brother Raymond Layne; sister Maudie Calicutt and sister-in-law Ruth Layne; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.

Nephews will be pallbearers and members of the East Texas Appaloosa Horse Club are honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 at Autry Funeral Home.

There will be blood drives in his memory at The Texas Bookstore in Bullard Feb. 17 and 24.
