Jerry Elizabeth Hurt
Services for Jerry Elizabeth Hurt, 70, of Athens, will be at 2 p.m., Sunday,
Jan. 14, 2007, at the Cooper Funeral Home Chapel, under the direction of Cooper
Funeral Home of Athens.
Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hurt passed away Thursday morning in Athens. She was born Aug. 8, 1936 in
Clyde to her parents, Melvin and Vada Gabbert Wilburn. she lived most of her
life in Athens and was an employee of Curtis Mathis and Harvey Industries for
many years. She married James Hurt on March 27, 1955 and was a devoted wife,
grandmother and great-grandmother. Jerry enjoyed singing, sewing, cooking and
writing.
Survivors include her husband James Hurt of Athens; daughters and sons-in-law,
Darelyn and Charles Sparks of Frankston, Teresa and Gerald Loden of Athens;
Elizabeth Crone of El Con Joe, Calif.; Connie Stokes of Athens; son, Ricky Hurt
of Athens; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bessie and Nolan Downs of Jacksonville;
Melba Magness of Jacksonville; Karen and Brad Holtzinger of Athens; Patricia and
Wayne Golf of Rusk; Joy Kay Wilburn of Jacksonville; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Frankie and Joann Wilburn of Rusk; Ronnie and Sharon Wilburn of
Maydelle; Steve and Rebecca Wilburn of Kilgore; 15 grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers include Gerald Loden, Clovis Loden, Doyle Loden, Gerry Loden,
Michael Crutchfield and Brad Holtzinger.
Honorary pallbearers include John Johnson, David Tidwell, Robert Menzel and Carl
Phelps.
The family received condolences from 4-6 p.m., Saturday.
