Funeral service for Cecile Cone, 99, of Jacksonville were held Jan. 12 at First United Methodist Church, Jacksonville.

Burial followed at McDonald Cemetery, New Summerfield.

Mrs. Cone died Friday, Jan. 9 in Jacksonville.

She was born Aug. 14, 1909 in New Summerfield to Samuel Edgar Tipton and Velma Morris Tipton.

She moved to Jacksonville in 1923 and lived there for 81 years, graduated from Jacksonville High School and Jacksonville Baptist College, and received her Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from Stephen F. Austin University.

Mrs. Cone was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, where she was a member of the sanctuary choir for 75 years, pianist for Men's Wesley Bible Class for more than 35 years, served on the Council of Ministries and on the administrative board. She was also active in American Association of Retired Persons serving as president 1990-1991, member of NSDAR (National Society Daughters of American Revolution), did sing-alongs for nursing homes of Jacksonville for several years and she and her husband Jimmie Cone were active in American Legion and Auxiliary following World War II. Mrs. Cone taught at West Side Elementary for 16 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jimmie H. Cone, her parents, and daughter Karen Cone Joiner.

Survivors include son Michael M. Cone and wife Joann of Houston; six grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons Michael Scott Cone, Dr. Stephen Mark Cone, John Christopher Cone, James Robert Joiner, David M. Joiner and John Andrew Joiner.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville or charity of the donor's choice.

Services were directed by Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
