Funeral for Edna Charlene Black, 85, of Pollok was at 10 a.m. Friday at the O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Alto with Bro. Horace Fletcher officiating. Burial was in the Hendricks Cemetery in Alto.
Mrs. Black died Jan. 8 in Lufkin. She was born Nov. 8, 1923 in Alto to Benjamin Franklin and Laura Elizabeth Murphy Gardner.
She was a Methodist and lived most of her life in Alto and Pollok. She worked as a waitress at several local restaurants.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Black; daughter, Edna Tillman and a grandchild.
Survivors are her daughters and sons-in-law, Rosielle and Keith Jerrell of Freeport and Effie Marie and Jackie Lynn Hewitt of Huntington; a sister, Helen Powers of Arlington; a half-brother, Carroll Gardner of Ponta; six grandchildren: Jimmie Frank Jerrell, Linda Louise McGee, Audrey Lynn Jerrell, Jackie Lynn Hewitt Jr., James Alexander Hewitt and Herbert Wayne Hewitt; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and family members.
O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
