REV. W.F. SIDES

Funeral for the Rev. W.F. Sides was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at Autry Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

The Rev. Sides died Dec. 20, 2007. He was born April 24, 1934, in Oakland to Houston Emery and Thena Jones Sides. He attended school in Oakland from 1940-1944 and Maydelle School from 1945-1953. He attended college at South Texas Jr. College 1959-1960, University of Houston 1970 and South Texas Bible School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. Oct. 20, 1953, and was discharged Oct. 19, 1956. He married Helen Jenkins on April 10, 1955. He entered the ministry on Sept. 11, 1963, and served as pastor of Victory Baptist 1965-1969 at New Caney; Calvary Baptist 1974-1978; Graceland Baptist 1979-1993; Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist 1993-2005; and was a supervisor for Houston Lighting and Power from Dec. 3, 1956 - April 1, 1992.

He was preceded in death by parents, Houston E. and Thena L. Sides; two brothers E.J. and T.H. Sides; and two sisters, Susie Sides Roberts and Martha Sides Forman.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Helen Sides; two daughters, Susan Cottrell and Lisa Sides; two grandchildren, Shannon Uptmor and Cinnamon Uptmor; and two sisters, Mildred Munsinger and Faye Wesson.

Pallbearers were James W. Sides, Jessie Traylor, Don Lusk, Albert Munsinger, David Lusk, Frank Lusk, Robert Shultz and Linwood McGaughey.

Honorary Pallbearers were deacons of University Baptist Church and deacons of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
