METTLEN
Funeral for S.W. (William) Mettlen, 93, of Wells will be at 10 a.m.
Wednesday at the O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul
Mettlen officiating. Burial will be in the Wells Mount Hope Cemetery
with the Masonic Lodge Chapter of Wells assisting. Mr. Mettlen died July
13. He was born June 19, 1915, in Wells to William and Bell Chandler
Mettlen.
He lived in Wells most of his life and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He worked as a city sewer plant operator at Lufkin and was a carpenter. He was a member of the Wells Masonic Lodge.
Preceding him in death were his son, Luis Mettlen; a sister; and 11 brothers. Survivors are his wife of 71 years, Valeria Mettlen of Wells; son and daughter-in-law, Johnnie and Rubye Mettlen of Lufkin; four daughters and son-in-law, Mary Powell of Jasper, Ida Stokes of Lake Pallas, Lydia and Ronnie Moye of Jacksonville and Stephanie Hardy of Huntington; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
