Michael “Thunder Chicken” Cox 

Services for Michael “Thunder Chicken” Cox are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Bullard Cemetery on U.S. Highway 69 with Bernie "Rebel" Huston officiating. Cox passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008 in Tyler after a long battle with cancer. He was born May 22, 1951 in Beaumont to the late Ross Harper and Lelia Hood Cox. He was a Baptist and a journeyman painter. When he was a young man, he was an oil field worker. One day, he showed up for work with a bottle of Thunderbird and a box of chicken and his driller gave him the nickname “Thunder Chicken” and it became the name everyone knew him by. Most people didn’t know his real name. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Johnny and Paul Cox. He is survived by a son, Michael R. Cox, Jr.; daughters, Christina and Lee Ann; and a brother, Jimmy Cox, of Beaumont. Published in the Jacksonville Daily Progress from 6/17/2008 - 6/18/2008.
