Hattie Bob Chance
Funeral services for Hattie Bob Chance, 94, of Jacksonville are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, July 18 2008 at Autry Funeral Home Chapel, Jacksonville with Phillip Strong of Southside Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Jacksonville. Mrs. Chance died July 13, 2008 in Jacksonville. She was born May 10, 1914 in Appleby to William Oliver “Ollie” Strode and Sallie “Sadie” Edwina Frazer Strode. She graduated from Nacogdoches High School. On Nov. 4, 1934, she married James Earl Chance. The couple lived in Nacogdoches, Houston, and Jacksonville while birthing and rearing five children. She was a member of the Grand Lodge of the Ladies Society of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen, the Home Extension Service Club, the PTA of Westside Elementary, the PTA of Berry Elementary, Burbank Jr. High, Jeff Davis High School and Sam Houston High School, all in Houston, Texas. During her years in Houston she was a member of Second Christian Church. When she and her husband returned to Jacksonville in 1966, she was a member of the Corinth Road Church of Christ and Southside Church of Christ. She retired from Jacksonville Independent School District Jr. High Cafeteria. She loved to travel and saw much of the United States and traveled to Italy during her retirement. Mrs. Chance moved to Conroe in 2001 to reside in an assisted living facility and moved back to Jacksonville in January of 2008.Mrs. Chance was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Chance in 1969; daughter, Bobbie Earl Heide in 1992; sisters, Bessie Lowrance, Annie Mae Strode and Jim Addie Russell; and brothers, Oliver Strode and C.B. Strode. She is survived by daughter, Paula Thompson and Wayne, of Crockett; sons, Charles Chance and Rosemary, of Jacksonville, Edwin Chance and Carol, of The Woodlands, Billy Chance and Teresa, of Conroe; and son-in-law, Peter Heide, of San Antonio; sister, Joyce Harrington, of Conroe; and sister-in-law , Reva Strode, of Burnet; and special niece and family, Edith and Glen Hamilton, of Jacksonville. Mrs. Chance is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Ramona Kelm and Robbie of White Oak, Johnette Wasko and Tim of Atlanta, Mellanee Roberts and LaFate of Sapulpa, Okla., Marci Beasley and Richard of Lexington, Texas Nathan Chance and Janna of Jackson, Tenn., Marcus Chance and Marianne of Austin, Joshua Chance and Jessie Arian of Denver, Colo., Eddie Chance of The Woodlands, Judy Duroy and Raymond of The Woodlands, Wade Chance and Grace of Allen, Kristine and Matthew Fairchild of Lexington, S.C., Jon, Stefani and Michelle Gonzales of Conroe; 20 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are grandsons and great grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday July 17 and from 10 a.m. until the service begins on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woodlands Christian Academy 5800 Academy Way, The Woodlands, TX or any other charity of your choice.
