ROY D. (TENY) BURROUGHS

Memorial service for Roy D. (Teny) Burroughs, 82, of Wells, was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 10, at the Falvey Memorial United Methodist Church in Wells with the Rev. Joe Beran officiating. Private burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Burroughs was born May 10, 1926, in Forest to the late Cordie Hester and George Prentis Burroughs. He died Sunday, July 6.

He was a retired educator. He began his career as a coach/ teacher with Maydelle ISD, moving to Hudson ISD in 1953. In 1974, he was employed with Murchison ISD, where he retired as the Superintendent. Mr. Burroughs served in the U.S. Army during World War II in England and Germany. He was a member of Falvey Memorial United Methodist Church and had resided in Wells for the past 24 years. He was also a member of Rusk VFW Post #3406, Wells Masonic Lodge #915, AF & AM and the Retired Teachers Association of Cherokee County.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and two brothers, W.R. Burroughs and M.L. (Red) Burroughs.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bobbye Burroughs of Wells; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Randy Scott of Kingwood; son, Terry Burroughs of Cleveland; grandchildren and their spouses, Emily and Chris Rickman of Midlothian, Va., Heather and Scott Pulaski of Ypsilanti, Mich., Bradley and Brooke Scott of Kingwood, Andrew Scott of Kingwood, and Kayla Burroughs of Richmond; and a great grandson, Samuel Rickman.

Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home of Lufkin was in charge of arrangements.
