ROBERT R. (BOB) BARR

Memorial service for Robert R. (Bob) Barr, 82, of Rusk, will be at 6 p.m. Monday, July 7, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Caldwell officiating.

He died June 19. He was born Sept. 27, 1925 in Rock Island, Ill. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a jeep driver in Gen. George Patton's Third Army. As a young man he participated in basketball, bowling, golf and horse shoes.

He worked for the John Deere Company in Moline, Ill., and later moved to California. He was employed by the Salinas, Calif. school district, retiring as chief of the computer section.

Following the marriage of their youngest daughter, La Retta, Mr. Barr and his wife, Dottie, moved from California to Pennsylvania, then to Alvin, to Florida, back to Texas, back to Florida and finally to the Piney Woods of East Texas in 2005. Mr. Barr was a member of the Rusk First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Dorothy P. (Dottie) Barr; three children, Linda Flores of Groveland, Calif., Robin Walton of San Jose, Calif., and La Retta Britton, of Rusk; 13 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

 Robert Roy Barr passed away on June 19, 2008. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Dorothy P. (Dottie) Barr; three children, Linda Flores of Groveland, Calif., Robin Walton of San Jose, Calif., and LaRetta Britton of Rusk; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Bob was a veteran of World War II serving as a jeep driver in General George Patton’s 3rd Army. As a young man he was a gifted athlete excelling in basketball, bowling, golf and horseshoes. He was born of Sept. 27, 1925 in Rock Island, Ill. Bob worked early on for the John Deere Company in Moline, Illinois and later moved to California and worked for the school district in Salinas, California retiring as chief of the computer section. Following the marriage of their youngest daughter LaRetta, Bob and Dottie sent out on a series of adventures while moving from California to Pennsylvania then on to Alvin, then on to Florida, back to Texas, back to Florida, and finally to the Pineywoods of East Texas in 2005.Bob was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Rusk.
