Samuel Hopkins “Hop” Barbour
Samuel Hopkins “Hop” Barbour, a native Texan, was born in Malone on September 4, 1921. He entered into rest on March 3, 2008 at the age of 86.He served in the U.S. Air Force in WWII. Hop owned and operated a starter and generator shop for 25 years in Jacksonville then changed professions and was a golf pro and greens superintendent for 25 years. He was preceded in death by loving parents, Mattie Lee and Samuel H. Barbour Sr.; brother, Robert Lee; two still born sons and two loving wives, Josephine Barbour and Wanda Remick Barbour. He is survived by brother, Joseph William Barbour; adopted son, Sammy Joe Barbour; step-daughter, Patricia Remick; and nephew Mike Barbour. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Madison Hills Baptist Church, 15413 O’Connor Road, San Antonio 78247, phone 656-3946, with Rev. Jim Perkins officiating.
