JOHN MORRIS WISE
Graveside service for John Morris Wise, 77, of Wells was at 10 a.m.,
Monday, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells with Carl Allen and Charles
Stringer officiating. Gibson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wise died June 27, 2007, in a Tyler hospital after an automobile accident. He was born July 2, 1929, in Douglass to the late Ollie Mae Holsomback and John David Wise.
He retired from the Lufkin Water Department, following 22 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Wells Church of Christ.
Preceding him in death were his first wife, Mary Frances McMillan Wise; his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
Survivors are his wife of nine years, Ernestine Helm Wise of Rusk; daughter, Lou Cox of Lufkin; stepson, Jerry B. Helm of Rusk; two brothers, Hugh Edward Wise of Wells and Archie Lee Wise of Nacogdoches; two sisters, Ollie Monk of Rusk and Johnnie Leigh Emerson of Wells; two grandsons, John Frank (Buster) Cox Jr. and Lawrence Waylon Cox, both of Lufkin; seven step-grandchildren, Brian Helm, Scott Helm and Cody Helm, all of Rusk and Jody Helm of Tyler, Shelly Petersen of Athens, Amy Frazer of Mt. Enterprise and Kristi Lynn Ruth of New Summerfield; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews: John F. (Buster) Cox, Jr., Lawrence Cox, Daryl Wise, Dan Emerson, Wayne Monk and Everette Monk.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Wells Church of Christ.
