CAPTAIN MANUEL LEON TYRA
Funeral for Capt. Manuel Leon Tyra, 68, of Alto was at 11 a.m. June 26 at the Alto Community Fellowship Church with Ron Rose officiating. Burial was in Old Palestine Cemetery. Capt. Tyra died June 23 in Alto. He was born May 19, 1938, in Bulah to William R. and Annie Mae Leonard Tyra. He lived most of his life in Alto, where he was a member of the Community Fellowship Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired as a tugboat captain.
Preceding him in death were brothers, Johnny Tyra, Ray Tyra and Jimmy Tyra.
Survivors are three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Michael Tyra and Terri Phillips of Portland, Tony Leon and Denise Tyra of Alto and Terry Lynn and Sherri Tyra of Orange Beach, Ala.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Tyra and James Ferguson and Shaney and Tommy Colgrove, all of Alto; a brother, Bobby Tyra of Sommerville; three sisters, Paulette Short of Corinth, Miss., Paula Goodman of Nacogdoches and Mary Clevenger of Dayton; former spouse, Joyce Lovell of Alto; 32 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Allison Bays, Tim Germany, Steve Selman, Jeanie Grammer, Kayla Helm and Tommy Colgrove.
Honorary pallbearers were James Russell, Randy Sturrock, James Ferguson, Nita Boyett, Frederick Tyler and Vic Cannon. Arrangements were under the direction of O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home.
