KENNETH HARDEE HERRING
 

Funeral for Kenneth Hardee Herring, 83, of Atoy was at 1 p.m. Friday at the Mount Cove Missionary Baptist Church at Atoy with Pastor Floyd Gaston officiating. Burial was in the Atoy Cemetery under the direction of O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Herring died June 26. He was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Forest, Miss. to Homer Hardee and Virgie Viola Smith Herring.

He had lived in Atoy for the last three years and was a member of the Mount Cove Missionary Baptist Church. He previously lived in Acworth, Ga. for 34 years after retiring as a chief petty officer of the Navy with 21 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the machinist union. He worked in aircraft production for Lockheed Industry.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Herring; and brothers, Clemmy Herring, Bob Herring and Delton Herring.

Survivors are a son, Kent Mitchell of Grangeville, Idaho; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Wayne McKay of Atoy; two brothers, Douglas Herring of Petal, Miss. and Sam Herring of Beaumont, Miss; four grandchildren, Josh, Sonny, James and Phillip; and four great-grandchildren.
