Odie Lee Bounds

Odie Lee Bounds, born December 14, 1911 near Lufkin, passed to her heavenly reward June 5, 2007 after an illness following hip replacement surgery. A retired Texas teacher with 47 years of teaching (also Interscholastic League Number-Sense Coach), she lived in Jacksonville from 1977 until 2005 when she moved to Tacoma, Washington to live with her only child, Helen Holcombe. Mrs. Bounds was a member of Craft Baptist Church, a Girls’ Missionary Auxiliary Counselor for 40 years, and a Sunday School teacher for at least 70 years. A member of AAUW, Odie Lee received a BA from Stephen F. Austin University and a MS from San Marcos State University. For about 60 years she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Jacksonville.

Deceased before her was her husband of 61 years, George E. Bounds and her parents, Mary Helen and Charlie Greenwood Price of Lufkin. She is survived by her daughter Helen and her son-in-law Mike Holcombe, of Tacoma, Washington, four grandchildren, Jaena AlMallah of Irbid, Jordan, Mark Holcombe of Texarkana, Arkansas, Lee Margaret Winkler, and George Holcombe, both of Tacoma, Washington, great-grandchildren, Sarah Helen and Beth AlMallah, and Michael Renee and Emily Rose Holcombe and four nephews.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at Thompson’s Funeral Home in Jacksonville with funeral services Friday at 11 a.m. followed by graveside services at Jarratt Cemetery near Jacksonville. Reverend Leon Ross, Pastor of Craft Baptist Church is officiating with Reverend David Smith, Associate Pastor assisting.

Funeral for Odie Lee Bounds, 95, of Tacoma, Wash. was at 11 a.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Leon Ross and the Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial was in Jarratt Cemetery.

Mrs. Bounds died June 5. She was born Dec. 14, 1911, near Lufkin. She was a retired Texas teacher with 47 years of teaching experience. She lived in Jacksonville from 1977-2005. She was a member of the Craft Missionary Baptist Church, a Girls' Missionary Auxiliary counselor for 40 years and a Sunday school teacher for at least 70 years. A member of the AAUW, Mrs. Bounds received a BA from Stephen F. Austin University and a MS from Texas State University at San Marcos. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 60 years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, George E. Bounds; her parents, Mary Helen and Charlie Greenwood Price.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Mike Holcombe of Tacoma; four grandchildren, Jacna AlMallah of Irbid, Jordan, Mark Holcombe of Texarkana, Ark., Lee Margaret Winkler and George Holcombe, both of Tacoma; great-grandchildren, Sarah Helen and Beth AlMallah and Michael Renee and Emily Rose Holcombe; and four nephews.
