Rusk – Services for Verdie Mae Talley Banks, 96, were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Wallace Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk with Brother Don Copeland officiating. Burial was at Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Wallace Thompson Funeral Home, Rusk. Verdie Mae Talley Banks died Saturday morning, December 8, 2007 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. She was one of nine children born November 7, 1911 in Rusk County and was a lifelong resident of East Texas. She worked in the grocery business most of her life. She was a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in Rusk. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star Rusk/Alto Chapter #79. She loved to fish and garden. Verdie loved gospel music and sang alto in quartets for many years. Her love of life and positive attitude brought laughter to all who knew her. Survivors include her only child, Linda Sue Collins and husband Chuck, three Grandchildren, Edwin Kent Miller II and wife Nancy, Plano, Texas; Kelly Jo Miller Renault and husband Mark, Logansport, LA., and Kevin Banks Miller and wife Tonya, Canton, Tx., four Great-Grandchildren Michael Kelton and Kristen Miller, Bullard, Texas, Samuel Miller and Simon Miller, Canton, Texas). She was so pleased to get to know her red-headed (like her) Great-Great Grandson, Kaegan Kelton, Bullard, Texas. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Mrs. Banks died Saturday. She was one of nine children. She was born Nov. 7, 1911, in Rusk County. She worked in the grocery business most of her life. She was a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in Rusk and the Order of Eastern Star Rusk/Alto Chapter #79. She sang alto in quartets for many years.
Survivors include her only child, Linda Sue Collins and husband Chuck; three grandchildren and spouses, Edwin Kent Miller II and Nancy Miller of Plano, Kelly Jo Miller and Mark Renault of Logansport, La., and Kevin Banks and Tonya Miller of Canton; four great-grandchildren, Michael Kelton and Kristen Miller of Bullard and Samuel Miller and Simon Miller of Canton; and great-great-grandson, Kaegan Kelton of Bullard. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
