JUANITA AURELIA HANDER ROBERTS

Graveside service for Juanita Aurelia Hander Roberts, 92, of Fort Smith,, Ark. will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, at Huntsville Oakwood Cemetery, 700 Martin Luther King Blvd. with the Rev. Marc L. Hander officiating.

Mrs. Roberts died April 1, 2007. She was born near Marlin, Falls County, April 23, 1914. She grew up at Belton. She earned her RN degree at Harris Methodist Memorial Hospital in Fort Worth in 1945. She spent seven years with her husband, Claude, a Fullbright Scholar, PhD, who taught ancient history in the armed forces education program in both the European and Pacific theaters after World War II. She researched in 12 countries and documented colored slides and library books, donating them to the USAF library.

After her husband's death in 1967, she spent 17 years as a supervisor and head nurse at Rusk State Hospital. She retired in 1988. She was a Methodist. Preceding her in death were her parents, Theodore W. and Aurelia Zimmerman Hander and her husband, Claude Roberts; four brothers, Nelson Hander, Dr. Raymond Hander, Theodore William Hander, Ethan Hander; and two sister, Myrtle Hander and LaVerne Hander Terrell.

Survivors are a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Fred and Helen Hander of Fort Smith; five nephews, 12 nieces and their families in Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
