Maggie Thompson Nelson

Services for Maggie Thompson Nelson, 89, of Troup, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Rock Hill Presbyterian Church, with Elder Sammuel W. Jones officiating. Burial will be at Union Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Mercy/McGowan Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nelson died April 14, in Jacksonville. She was born Jan. 16, 1918, in Ponta. She attended Rock Hill School and attended Rock Hill Presbyterian Church. She lived in Troup for a majority of her life, and later moved to Jacksonville until her death. She was a house wife and a domestic service provider. She is preceded in death by her son, Earl Nelson; her husband, Jim Henry Nelson Sr.; seven sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Cora Nelson of Tyler, and Jim H. and Shirley Nelson Jr. of Tyler; her daughters and sons-in-law, Mae Dean Jones of Jacksonville, Frances J. and Raymond Howard of Denver, Colo., and Murl and Andrew Hackney of Bullard; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Danny E. Whitmill, Tony L. Jones, Warren D. Whitmill, LaTerrell L. Hackney, Gerald J. Nelson and Jim Nelson III.

Honorary pallbearers include Elder Pete Thompson, Elder Vernon Sanders, Deacon James E. Gordon and Deacon Carl Tennison.

Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007. A viewing will be held Wednesday 11a.m.-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
