John N. Trantham
John N. Trantham, 79, a resident of Waco for the past 34 years passed
away Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at his residence. A visitation service will
be Friday, July 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Bellmead Funeral Home. A private
burial with the family will be schedule at a later date in Resthaven
Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Mr. Trantham was born January 7, 1928 in Jacksonville to John William
and Myrtle Lee (Rolan) Trantham.
He was a Korean War Marine Veteran and a member of the American Legion.
John graduated from Stephen F. Austin State College in 1952 and in 1954
received his Master of Education degree.
John, a high school football coach and athletic director in Texas and
California, retired in 1974 from the public school system as
Superintendent of Schools in Marathon. He had a great passion for
football and continued writing X’s & O’s until his death.
He owned the Bellmead Nursing Home from 1967 till 1991 and attended
Highland Baptist Church in Waco.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother William
R. Trantham.
He is survived by Phyllis Trantham Fox the mother of his two daughters.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Regina
Trantham Podsednik and husband William of Burleson of Texas, Angelia
Gail Trantham of Porterville, Ca.; sister, Ruth Stark and her three
children; two grandsons, Chad A. and Todd C. Podsednik of Burke, Va.;
six great grandchildren.
