Funeral services for G.L. Skinner, 57, of Alto, will be held at 2 p.m.
Friday, June 22 in the Weeping Mary Baptist Church with Rev. Ike Wiley
and Rev. Herman Martin officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Thomas Chapel under thr direction of O.T.
Allen and Son Funeral Home.
Mr. Skinner died Saturday in Alto surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born August 3, 1949 in Alto to G.W. and Ardie Pope Skinner. He
attended school at Booker T. Washington, Fidelity Manor and Alto High
School. Mr. Skinner was an active member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist
Church in Houston until he moved back to Alto and became a dedicated and
faithful member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church where he served as a
deacon, assistant superintendent, youth Sunday School teacher, choir
president, WMBC Brotherhood, committee officer of the area Brotherhood
and a member of the Ministry Alliance until his death.
He worked at the Rusk State Hospital in security for many years and then
worked for Duplichain Contractors until his health failed. He served as
a school board member at Alto High School from 2000 to 2007.
He was preceded in death by his father G.W. Skinner, step-mother Ola Mae
Skinner, step-father B.J. Thacker, father-in-law James L. Green and two
grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years Rosie Skinner of Alto; his mother
Ardie Thacker of Alto; his mother-in-Law Rostene Green of Alto;
daughters Camille Green of Alto and G’Undra Skinner of Alto; his sons
Joshua Skinner of Alto, Stancy Skinner of Alto and Jeremy Skinner of
Alto; his grandchildren Tyrus, Sharenza, Tyran, Kim, Joshua Jr., Yoshira,
Carenza, Jadarion, Jaydon and Londyn; his sisters and brothers-in-law
Laura Holmes of Alto, Margie Skinner of Alto, Gloria Skinner of Houston,
Brenda and Tommy Griffin of Longview, Carolyn and Gabe Frazier of Alto
and Crystal Sterling of Shreveport; his brothers and sister-in-law
Charles Skinner of Alto, Saira “Pig” Thacker of Alto, George and Della
Skinner of Houston, Elmo Thacker of Alto; his very special friends Greg
and Betty Duplichain and family, Tyrone Johnson, Ronesha Smith and
Laquisha Foster and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other
relatives and friends; his sisters-in-law: Peggy Green, Paula Pope and
Pamala Black; his brothers-in-law: Vern Green and Willis Green and his
special niece whom he raised as his own, Jalane Green.
Pallbearers are Robert Jenkins, Howard Richardson, Jerry Moore, Jeffery
Duplichain, Jason Duplichain, Earnest Mitchell, George Skinner, Jr. and
Carol Parker.

Mr. Skinner died Saturday. He was born Aug. 3, 1949, in Alto to G.W. and Ardie Pope Skinner. He attended school at Booker T. Washington, Fidelity Manor and Alto High School. He was a member of the Weeping Mary Baptist Church, serving in many positions. He worked at Rusk State Hospital and later for Duplichain Contractors. He was on the Alto ISD board from 2000 to his death. Preceding him in death were father, G.W. Skinner; step-mother, Ola Mae Skinner; step-father, B.J. Thacker; father-in-law, James L. Green and two grandchildren. Survivors from Alto are his wife of 34 years, Rosie Skinner; mother, Ardie Thacker; mother-in-law, Rostene Green; two daughters, Camille Green and G'Undra Skinner; three sons, Joshua Skinner, Stancy Skinner and Jeremy Skinner, all of Alto; grandchildren, Tyrus, Sharenza, Tyran, Kim, Joshua Jr., Yoshira, Carenza, Jadarion, Jaydon and Londys; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Laura Holmes and Margie Skinner of Alto, Gloria Skinner of Houston, Brenda and Tommy Griffin of Longview, Carolyn and Gabe Frazier of Alto and Crystal Sterling of Shreveport, La.; four brothers and sister-in-law, Charles Skinner, Salra (Pig) Thacker and Elmo Thacker of Alto and George and Della Skinner of Houston; three sisters-in-law, Peggy Green, Paula Pope and Pamala Black; brothers-in-law, Vern Green and Willis Green; and niece, Jalane Green.
Pallbearers will be Robert Jenkins, Howard Richardson, Jerry Moore, Jeffrey Duplichain, Jason Duplichain, Earnest Mitchell, George Skinner Jr., Carol Parker. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
