Ernest H. Martin
Funeral services for Ernest H. Martin, 83, of Rusk, are scheduled for
2 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007 in the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home Chapel
with Rev. Joe Ballard officiating. Graveside services with military
rites will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2007 in Houston National Cemetery
under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.
Mr. Martin died July 11, 2007 in a Tyler hospital. He was born August
16, 1923 in Rusk to the late Johnston and Annie Berry Martin.
He was a resident of Rusk for 50 years and was a member of Sardis
Baptist Church. He was a Transportation Foreman for Comal County. He was
a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion and of
Disabled American Veterans. He served in the United States Army during
World War II, and was in the forty-ninth tank destroyer division in the
Battle of the Bulge. He was an avid camper and forty-two player.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia M. Martin May 10, 1993;
sister Mary Bell Selman and brother, Raymond Martin.
He is survived by two sons, Howard Rudd of Lincoln, California and Fred
Rudd of Lincoln, California; a daughter, Connie Nannen of Dallas; two
step-daughters, Susan Bailey of Houston and Georgia Houghton of Houston;
sister Lillian Corley of Alto; nine grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a special friend, Ann
Spurgeon of Rusk.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 12, 2007
at the funeral home.
