Funeral for Kelvin D. Hackney, 45, of Lufkin, formerly of Alto, was at 1 p.m. Friday in the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Ike Wiley officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Hackney died Dec. 23. He was born May 28, 1963, in Lufkin to George Robert and Jethro Mae Bass Hackney. He was a Baptist and had lived in Lufkin for the past 25 years. He grew up in Alto, where he graduated from Alto High School in 1981. He received an associate degree from Angelina College. Mr. Hackney was a plumber and worked as a fund raiser for charitable causes. He was a U.S. Marine veteran.
Preceding him in death were his father, George Robert Hackney and a sister, Ella Marie Thacker.
Survivors are his mother, Jethro Mae Skinner of Lufkin; two sons, Kenaz Sweat and Keland Sweat, both of Nacogdoches; four brothers, Robert Hackney and Matthew Earl Hackney, both of Alto and Larry Hackney and Denorris Hackney, both of Sweet Union; three sisters, Bealuh Hackney, Gloria Hackney and Vanessa Hackney, all of Lufkin; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerry Moore, George Hackney, Fredrick Hackney, Courtney Mumphrey, Perry James, Thomas Edwards, Patrick McKelvey and Chrispen Skinner.
O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home was in charge.
