EDWIN ( M.E.) BYERS

 

Funeral for Morris Edwin (M.E.) Byers, 88, of Rusk was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the Oakland Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. R.S. Dyess and the Rev. Don Copeland officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

Mr. Byers died Dec. 19. He was born Dec. 31, 1919, in Forest to the late Obed and Eliza Virginia Arnold Byers. He was formerly of La Porte, was a member of Oakland Missionary Baptist Church and retired from DuPont Chemical Company in Deer Park after 33 years of service. Mr. Byers also retired from Cherokee County as a Bailiff after 10 years of service. He was a Mason, Eastern Star, Shriner and served in the United States Army in World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Oleta Byers on April 6. Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Shawn Dean of Oakland; brother, Jack Mason Byers of Forest; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia Baugh of Clear Lake and Elizabeth and Bill Hearne Chandler of Alto; grandson, Clint Salyer of Houston; granddaughter, Kayla Lynette Dean of Oakland; great-grandson, Dustin Roy Salyer of Rusk; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Wade Odom, Mark Odom, Timothy Roach, Ken McClure, Keith Lindsey and Keith Johns. Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home was in charge.
