LLOYD F. BURNS

Funeral for Lloyd F. Burns, 83, of Wells, was at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Falvey United Methodist Church. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Burns died Saturday. He was born March 5, 1924, in Wells to Marion and Aver Ellerbee Burns. He had lived in Wells for 25 years. He retired from the U.S. Army and Air Force. He served in World War II as a medic, receiving a Bronze Star for valor in action.

He later worked as an office manager at Texas Employment Commission in the Houston- Conroe area for 22 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Falvey United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Reatha Trelba Sessions Burns and a brother, Hoy Burns.

Survivors are three sons, Jeffrey L. Burns of Conroe, Phillip H. Burns of Montgomery and Perry A. Burns of Magnolia; two sisters, Maverion McGill of Bellville and Hazel Jean Courson of Fredricksburg; four grandchildren, Christopher, Leanne, Logan and Ryan Burns.

Funeral for Irby McKenzie Hilliard of Jacksonville was at 10 a.m. April 25, at Autry Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Webb officiating.

Mrs. Hilliard was born in Van Zandt County July 15, 1908. She graduated from Grand Saline High School, and entered what was then North Texas Teachers' College with a teaching career in mind. That plan changed when she met and married George M. Hilliard Jr., who had interest in the study of medicine which he completed in 1935. The family moved to Jacksonville in 1945 after Dr. Hilliard had served four years military duty.

Her continued interest in the medical profession was evident by her many years of work in the Cherokee County Medical Auxiliary and her volunteer work at Nan Travis Memorial Hospital, now East Texas Medical Center.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law Dr. George and Carmen Hilliard of Longview, James R. (Jim) and Beth Hilliard of Dallas; a daughter, Sally Hilliard Shank of Dallas; grandchildren, Julie and John Webster of Atlanta, Ga., Dr. George Hilliard IV & wife Jill of Memphis, Tenn., Amanda Hilliard of Fort Worth, Steve Shank and wife Monica of Dallas, Brooke and Mike Mercer of Victoria, Dr. Stuart Hilliard and wife Amy of Portland, Ore., Ree and Monte Lowery of Seabrook, John Goldberg and wife Jennifer of Dallas and 13 great-grandchildren.
