ROY THOMAS ATKERSON

 

Funeral for Roy Thomas Atkerson, 78, of Rusk was at 2 p.m., Sunday at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Lee Welch and the Rev. Horace Fletcher officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Wells.

Mr. Atkerson died Nov. 28. He was born April 12, 1930. in Gary, to the late Oscar Roy and Donnie Anne Springer Oliver Atkerson. He was a Rusk resident for 15 years and a truck driver. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sons, Charles Taylor and Bobby Taylor; and grandson, Richard Corey Acrey. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Betty Ann Atkerson of Rusk; son and daughter-in-law, Cleo (Bud) and Ann Acrey of Pollok; seven daughters and three sons-in law, Nelda and Joe Scroogins of Onalaska, Betty and Tony Proctor of Livingston, Becky and Jerry Durrett of Jacksonville, Vivian Hodges of Wells, Katherine Christie of Kennard and Joy Lofton and Crystal Atkerson, both of Rusk; 26 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and special friend, Arnold Hodges of Wells.

Pallbearers were Joseph Hodges, Zachary Acrey, Matthew Hodges, William Durrett, Brandon Taylor and John Christie. Honorary pallbearers were Arnold Hodges, Jimmy Rains, Joy Lofton, John Acrey, Tom Ball, Bill Harris and Lamar Guy.
