Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Kennedy Acker will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Texas with Chaplain John Frank Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, Jacksonville, Texas

Dorothy Jean Kennedy Acker passed away on June 3, 2007 after a long illness.

Dorothy was born on December 4, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, Texas. She spent her early childhood years in Winfield. Her family later moved to Dialville where she attended high school.

She married John (Mike) Acker, also of Dialville, on March 22, 1947. Dorothy and her family moved to Dallas in 1964. In 1967 she began her career in the savings and loan industry. When she retired in 1987 she served as Assistant Vice President of First Garland Savings. During her 20 year career Dorothy was a member of many professional organizations, including the Garland Chamber of Commerce, Garland Federation of Women’s Clubs, and Soroptimist International of Garland, where she served as president in 1982-1983.

She also served as a director for the North Texas Savings and Loan Institute of Financial Education for three years.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of sixty years, John (Mike) Acker, her brother, A.J. Kennedy and his wife, Burney, of Jacksonville, and her children, Rodney and Judy Acker and Susan Nash, all of Dallas. Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive her.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of personal choice.
