The Old Thompson Farm Cemetery

This cemetery is located on a portion of the 1318 acre Leander Rhodes Head Right Survey in Cherokee County that once was owned by James
Thompson and is on private property off FM - 235E and CR 440l.

James Thompson purchased this land in the early 1850s and made it a homestead for himself, his wife, Tabitha and their children.

Although some people remember this being a fairly large cemetery with as many as 25 or more plots, through out the years most of the markers
have vanished. This can be contributed to damage from roaming cattle, vandalism or just plain theft of markers.

Mary Elizabeth Thompson Hall was one of James & Tabitha's children. Her first husband, A. J. Reynolds, died April 19, 1862 while serving in
the CSA. She married her second husband, J. F. M. Hall, the 23rd Jan. 1868. He also served in the CSA in Co. 1, 10 Texas Cal. He died some-
time later in Rusk County, Texas.

It is believed that many more of the Thompson family members are also buried among the remaining marked graves.

The existing markers are for :

Hall, James R. d. 24 Jun 1869 (6 months 16 days) (son of J.F.M. & Mary E.)
Hall, Epsie L. d. 1 Sep 1873 (3 years 6 months 23 days) (daughter of J.F.M & Mary E.)
Hall, Mary Elizabeth 7 Apr 1840 d. 30 Sep 1873 (wife of J.F.M.)
Thompson, Josephas  8 Oct 1824 d. 6 Jun 1885 who may have been a servant
