WALKER CEMETERY
This cemetery is located on CR 1322 about a mile
from Highway 84 in
Cherokee County. After surveyors found the abandoned cemetery in
1972, the
Texas Highway Department was
notified and it was named
"Walker Cemetery" in honor of Anderson &
Mary
Elizabeth Walker. An
acre of land was set aside by the State of Texas
protecting
the cemetery.
Although only eight headstones were found, there have been reports of
between 50 - 100
people being buried here. The eight
remaining are:
l. Patrick Johnson, born in Ireland,
1786 - 1856 and
2. Jenny Houston Johnson, born in VA 1784 - 1854

were parents of Sarah
Ann Johnson Richey
who married George Washington
Richey. Numerous descendants

the Richey family are buried in Walker
s Chapel
Cemetery.

John Walker who married Mary Rice. Their children
were:

Walker has
been credited with the establishment of Walker:s-
Chapel
Methodist Episcopal Church,
South.
Hazlet S. Walker who married HenriettaA. Watson. (no children)
Hazlet Walker was a Trustee
of Walker:s-
Chapel
Methodist
Episcopal Church, South.
Laura
A.J. Walker who married Joseph M. Russell. After his death
She married Daniel M. Kent.
Her children were:
Nancy Elizabeth Russell, Samuel S. Russell,
James H M Kent and Sarah
S J Kent
Margaret
Elizabeth Walker who married Levi Medford after his
first wife died. Their children were:
Susan Medford who married W. H. Rogers
Cora Medford who married J. T. Watkins
Margaret Medford is buried in
Walker s Chapel Cemetery
Martha E. Walker who married John J. Jones.It has been
said that J.J. Jones was buried at Myrtle Springs
Cemetery because the rising waters prohibited
access to the Walker Cemetery when he died.
A number of their descendants
are
buried in
Walker
s
Chapel Cemetery.
Susan S.(Sarah) Walker who married J. T. McCraryand are
buried in Walker s Chapel Cemetery, with some of their
children.
