WOODIE POWELL WOODIE POWELLFuneral for Woodrow (Woodie) Lee Powell, 95, of Rusk was at 3 p.m., Thursday, at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Don Copeland officiating. Burial will be in Lowes Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Powell died May 25. He was born Aug. 30, 1914, in Eureka to the late John Jefferson and Mattie Louella Powell. Mr. Powell was a Rusk resident for 26 years. He formerly lived in Kilgore. He was a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Powell owned and operated Powell’s Well and Compressor Service in Kilgore for many years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katie Inez Powell; two sons, Woodrow Lee Powell Jr. and James Richard Powell; and a daughter, Ima Faye Mezzel.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Katherine Conway Powell of Rusk; a son Roger Powell of Alvarado; two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen Inez and Elbert Dorsey of Kilgore and Cleta Fern and Harry Berryhill of Rusk; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers were Dale Powell, Richard E. Powell, Justin Wayne Powell, T.J. Cummins, Michael Miller and Morgan Miller. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Lanier, Stacy Lanier and John Karie-Fenton.

Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
