Ex-Confederate Reunion.
Jacksonville, Tex., Sept. 16 -- The third annual reunion of Capt. R. B.
Martin's company of cavalry in Col. W. F. Locke's regiment convened here
yesterday. The meeting was well-attended by the remaining members of the company
and others who wore the gray. A movement was inaugurated to erect a monument at
Rusk in honor of the confederate dead of Cherokee county. Addresses were made in
their behalf by Hon. H. G. Lane of Fort Worth, formerly a citizen of Cheroiee
county, and Gen. John M. Claiborne of Rusk. Lieut. Daniel Oppenheimer, a member
of Martain's company, now at San Antonio, met with the company for the first
time since the battle of Nashville in 1864, where he was wounded. He subscribed
$100 toward the proposed monument. The next annual reunion of Capt. Martain's
company will be held at Alto, Tex., on Sept. 19th and 20th, 1900, the
anniversary of the battle of Chickamauga.
