History
In February 1975, Mrs. Tom Dean Stevens taught a course in genealogy at Jacksonville College. After that course, some from this group were found frequently at the library, eagerly researching family names and family histories. So, the idea of forming a county-wide genealogical society grew and became a reality on May 12, 1975. The organizing meeting of the Cherokee County Genealogical Society was held in the Jacksonville Savings & Loan Association, with 14 members present. The society is a non-profit organization, supported by membership, contributions and gifts. Its purpose is to promote interest in genealogical research and the preservation of family history.
