JESSE SHADDIX

Jesse Shaddix, having long lived a consistant member with us last spring and severed to the call of his country as a volunteer under Captain Oliver, left for the heat of war in Arkansas, where he soon fell under attack of measles and after a long patient endurance of that disease and its unusual consequences fell a victim to death. The particulars of his death we are not informed, but we are left to indulge from his walk in our midst that he has changed earths tiresome ? of sorrow and strife for a heaven of peace, a heaven of glory.

*note-son of William Shaddix who was born @1808.

Card of Thanks from the family of Ouida Shaddix

(daughter to Jeff Joshua Shaddix)(died in 1914 when a tornado hit the Cass county area)

We all think in the days of prosperity and health that we fully understand the meaning of the word friend, but never before have we been able to comprehend so fully the significance of that word. Only those who have suffered similiar afflictions can understand our feeling when we found ourselves buried beneath the walls of our home. It seemed like we had more than we could bear when we took the lifeless body of our dear sweet daughter, Ouida, from beneath the cruel walls.

We were not long homeless. These noble souls and generous spirits responded to our need in a Christian like way. We were sheltered an cared for. Willing hands gave aid in every way.

Our home has been rebuilt to such a way that we feel thankful. Not only do we thank the good people of Marietta, but we thank each and every one far and near, that lent a helping hand.

Kind friends, our gratitude is too deep for words. Spoken language could never express our appreciation for all deeds of loving kindness, for our thankfulness can only be told in swelling heart throbs.

When we all gather together in another kingdom, where we shall know as we are known, when the presence of our common father crystallizes our innermost being, then you can know the depth of our feeling when we say thank you.

May infinite wisdom guide you, infinite love shield and protect you from all harm, is the prayer of our hearts.

Gratefully,

Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Shaddix
