CAMP COUNTY - CROSS ROADS CEMETERY Birth: Sep. 2, 1929 Queens Queens County New York, USA Death: Nov. 27, 2008 Pittsburg Camp County Texas, USA PITTSBURG - Services for Burt Marans, 79, of Pittsburg, Texas, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg, with the Rev. Richard Heyduck officiating. Interment will be in Crossroads Cemetery in Camp County under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Mr. Marans died Thursday, November 27, 2008, at his residence. Born September 2, 1929, in Queens, N.Y., he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and lived most of his life in Jamaica Queens, N.Y. He was was co-founder and co-owner/vice president of Malibu Textiles in New York and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Safe T, ETMC fund-raising committee for the new hospital in Pittsburg, MHMR, ETCADA, MUSEUM, NTCC, Pittsburg EDC and Pittsburg Home Rule Committee. He volunteered with the Salvation Army and was an active member of AA. He was a mentor and had the ability to help those in need. He is survived by his children, Candy and Jimmie Kent Martin of Pittsburg, Texas, Bruce and Kathy Carpenter of Pittsburg, Texas, and Mike and Cindy Carpenter of Mansfield, Texas; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Martha Marans; his wife, Nan Marans, who died December 8, 2007; and one grandchild. Pallbearers will be Richard Samuels, Manfred Stanko, Carroll Oldham, Jim Bartholomew, Jim Jordan and Rhett McCullough.
