CAMP COUNTY - ROSE HILL CEMETERY George Stewart Hess, age 86, of Longview, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, March 2. He was born December 27, 1930 in Pittsburg, Texas to George Harold Hess and Sybil Katherine Stewart Hess. George was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War. After his military service, George completed college at East Texas State University and began working as a women’s apparel salesman. Mr. Hess enjoyed a lengthy career in sales, during which he traveled extensively across the United States, and several other countries. He loved and was devoted to the First United Methodist Church where he was a lifetime member. George was very proud to be the “oldest” living member of the church. He took great pride in the “world renowned” pipe organ and imported stain glass windows. George loved his hometown of Pittsburg. His many friends joined together almost every day for coffee and fellowship. He is survived by his brother James B. "Jim" Hess and wife Glenda of Dallas; a sister: Martha Hess Whitehead and husband Laughton of Longview; one niece and three nephews, and many dear friends. Private graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 3, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg, with Reverend Diane Lothrop officiating. Reverend Anna Whitehead Kent and Reverend Hill Johnson will officiate a memorial service that will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg.
