Mrs. Alma F. James, 85, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Murray F. Broaddus at 11:50 o’clock Friday night after a prolonged illness of
almost a year, the last two weeks of which she had been confined to her bed.
Mrs. James, a member of the First Baptist Church, had been an active
worker in church affairs until illness prevented it.
Mrs. James was born in Burleson county and was the only child of Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Farmer. She was the wife of
the late G. E. James, who died 18 years ago in 1928.
To this union 8 children were born and five died in early childhood.
One daughter, Mrs. W. H. Taylor, passed away in 1937.
The deceased is survived by one son, Hugh E. James of Temple, and one
daughter, Mrs. Murray F. Broaddus of this city, seven grand children and two
great grand children.
Mrs. James fine personality and steadying influence was felt by all those
who knew her and came in contact with her.
As a church worker she taught the young men’s Sunday School class for a
period of thirty years weaving a great religious atmosphere into the lives of
her many young students.
The funeral service was held from the First Baptist Church Sunday
afternoon at 3:30 with Rev A. S. Broaddus officiating.
Interment was later made in Masonic cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were handled by
Harvey-Schiller.
Pall bearers were J. W. Gray, Julius Houston, C. E. Cromarte, Hugh
Cherry, D. W. Burns, H. D. Coleman, Guy E. Douglass and L. H. Handy.
Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral of Mrs. G. E.
James here Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Lee E. James, Mrs. Egan and Misses Saphronia
and Claribel Carrington of Bryan, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh E James and Hugh L. James of
Pendleton, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. James and Bertha Mae James, Fort Worth, Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Neal and Elaine, Mrs. T. F. Bunkley, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Blum, Mr. and
Mrs. Guy Draper, William McDonald, Clyde Dillon, W. J. Jordon, Temple; Mr. and
Mrs. F. Holman, Taylor; Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Broaddus and Jimmy, Brownwood, W. H.
Taylor, Houston; Rev. and Mrs. W. O. Wright and Mr. and Mrs. Roberts of Marlin.
