Benjamin Franklin Swoap
Benjamin Franklin Swoap, on 21 April 1836, was a
private in Company H, 1st Regiment of Texas Volunteers, commanded by Col. Edward
Burleson, at San Jacinto. Lt. H.H. Swisher was the Company H commander. On 10
March 1841, Benjamin was issued a land grant for 1476 acres in Milam County,
Republic of Texas, Patent #153, and on 5 December 1844, he received a Milam
Donation for
640 acres, Patent #81. On 11 February 1860, he
received a land grant for 320 acres in present Lee County.
Benjamin Franklin Swoap married Martha Jones
about 1846, probably in Milam County, Republic of Texas. Martha, the daughter of
Wiley and Sarah Morgan Jones, was born about 1832 in Alabama. In the 1850 Census
of Burleson County, Texas, in dwelling #114 was: Franklin Swoap, age 32, born in
Tennessee, his wife Marthey, age 18, born in Alabama; and their children
William, age 3 and Wiley age 1 both born in Texas. Mrs. Martha Jones Swoap died
about 1853. On 14 February 1856, Benjamin married Mrs. Viney Troublefield in
Burleson County. Viney had a son R. Troublefield. In the 14 August 1860 Census
of Burleson County in dwelling #442 was: B.F. Swoap age 45, born in Tennessee;
V. Swoap age 43, female, born in Tennessee; William Swoap, age 12, male, born in
Texas; Wiley Swoap age 10, male born in Texas; Polly Swoap age 3, female, born
in Texas; James Swoap age1, male, born in Texas; and R. Troublefield age 13,
male, born in Texas.
William Swoap married Drusilla C. Mc David on 4
November 1869, in Burleson County. In the 18 August 1870, Census of Burleson
County, Lexington Post Office, in dwelling #12 was: William Swoap age 22, male,
farmer, born in Texas; and Drusilla C. Swoap age 16, female, born in Arkansas.
In the 9 September 1870, Census of Burleson County, Texas, Caldwell P.O., in
dwelling
#529 was: Swoap, Vina, age 44, born in Tennessee;
Swoap, Mary, age 13, born in Texas; Swoap, Bette, age 9, born in Texas; and
Swoap, Benjamin F., age 6, male, born in Texas.

in dwelling #8 was: Plant, Drusilla, head, female, born in December 1853 in
Arkansas; Plant, Gertrude, daughter, born in December 1896 in Texas; Swoap,
Davis E., son, born in January 1885 in Texas; Swoap, Carrie M., daughter, born
in December 1887 in Texas; Swoap, Effie B., daughter, born in April 1892 in
Texas; and Nunley, Catherine, boarder, born in April 1842 in Illinois.
William Swoap, son of Frank and Martha Guthrie
Swoap was born 4 November 1849, and died 10 January 1893.
William Benjamin Swoap, first child of William
and Drusilla Swoap, was born
30 October 1870, and died 1 January 1893.
Davis E. and Martha E. Swoap were in Karnes
County, Texas on 10 April 1930.

Texas is a B.F. Swoap.
Drusilla Mc David Swoap was born 4 December 1853,
died 29 December 1912, and is buried in Hugh Wilson Cemetery, Tangle wood, Lee
County, Texas.
