Mike Risinger, Encino, Shot While Hunting

Mike Risinger of Encino is in the Alice Hospital receiving treatment of gunshot wounds sustained while hunting on his ranch near Rachal last Sunday. His brother, Ben Risinger, who accompanied him on the hunting trip was killed by the same shot.

The two brothers were shot by Roberto Perez, a Mexican residing on the ranch, who was also hunting.

The accident occurred about a mile from the ranch house near Falfurrias while the brothers were stalking turkeys, when he saw a movement in the underbrush, and believing the objects which he saw in the thick undergrowth were turkeys, fired. One shot struck Ben Risinger in the heart and the other shots sprayed Mike’s legs. Ben Risinger lived about an hour and a half after the accident occurred.

No charges were filed against Perez, members of the family said Monday, as the accident was clearly accidental.

Six University Students Injured In Auto Accident

Six youths, students at the University of Texas, were injured at the University of Texas, were injured in an automobile accident about twenty miles north of Alice on Highway No. 66 last Wednesday night while on their way to Brownsville to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with their parents. The injured students were brought to the Alice Hospital by a Moyer ambulance.

The injured students were Ismael Zavate, Raul Cavazos, Raul Garces, Joe Champion, Thomas Cavazos, Juan Tijerina.

Intentions to Marry Total 5 Applications For Month of Nov.

Five intentions to marry applications were filed in Falfurrias for Brooks County during the month of November, reports Delfino E. Villarreal, deputy.

A. J. Gary, age 21, and Ruth Petty, age 18, both of Laredo, filed November 16.

K. R. Flohre, age 29, San Juan, and De Shazo Simpson, age 21, of McAllen, filed November 14.

Sylvestre Rodriguez, Jr., age 21, and Gumercinda Abrego, age 16, both of Encino, filed November 18.

Mrs. E. P. Johnson Wins First Prize At Special Bridge

Mrs. W. G. Stearns was honored by members of the Friday and Saturday Bridge Clubs who held a spend-the-day bridge party Tuesday with Mrs. W. B. Gardner and Mrs. C. F. Wagenschein.

Mrs. E. P. Johnson won first prize, while Mrs. E. D. McIntyre took second place. Mrms. C. F. Hopper cut for consolation while Mrs. W. G. Stearns won the guest prize.

The personnel included, Mesdames, Stearns, Hopper, Johnson, McIntyre, Scott, Teas, Taylor, Burdett, Schultz, Casey, John Bennett, Joe Bennett, Wagenschein, Garadner, Forsythe and Miss Mary Maupin.

Falfurrias Reading Club Holds Meeting At McIntyre Home

Miss Ada McIntyre was hostess to the Falfurrias Reading Club at her home Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Goodhue Weatherly was leader for the afternoon, the novel “The Age of Innocence” by Edith Wharton being the subject under discussion.

The story was outlined by Mrs. T. H. Pollard with character sketches by Mts. A. W. Dale and the author’s Literary Type by Mrs. C. Hammitt.

The members present were: Mesdames T. H. Pollard, H. M. Taylor, Goodhue Weatherly, T. R. Bennett, C. Hammitt, J. T. Ferguson, C. L. DuBose, S. E. Cone, C. Rupp, M. F. Orth, Miss Geneva Lytle and the hostess Miss Ada McIntyre.

Junior B. Y. P. U. Holds Wierner Roast Saturday

The Junior B. Y. P. U. held a Wierner Roast Saturday evening at the J. C. Thomas home.

Those who attended were, Mrs. Clarence Burdett, Tennie and Lois McCullar, Miriam Donohoe, H. Clay Freeze, Helen Burdett, Clementine Price, Marie Bennett, Albert and Elizabeth Dale, Olivia and Ernest Williams, Luther and Earl Hise and Lucille Thomas.
