LEWIS
posted by Charles Hubert on Saturday, March 7, 1998

LEWIS, John Henry. I am interested in knowing if there is still a cemetery 4 miles E. of New Boston called Red Bayou Cemetery? My great grandfather, John Henry LEWIS as well as his brother Mark LEWIS was reported to have been buried there. John Henry Lewis died in Bowie County 14 Feb 1874. Mark's date unknown. John Henry LEWIS came to Bowie Co. in 1872 with his then 12 year old son, Frederick Monroe LEWIS (my grandfather) where his brothers Mark and Crit LEWIS already resided. He purchased and operated a ferry on the Red River for wagon traffic bringing migrating families and freight into Texas. I would appreciated any information on the cemetery or the LEWIS surname.

CALDWELL, INGRAM, SMITH, SULLIVAN
posted by Pat Smith on Monday, March 9, 1998

I am searching for information on my great grandmother, Martha Jane "Mattie" SMITH b. Jan. 1864 in Mississippi. She married Monroe INGRAM b. 1848 in Mississippi 1st and had 5 children: Allie Belle, James William, Elbert R., Charles, and Lillie. After Monroe died, "Mattie" married J.W. SULLIVAN and moved to Texarkana, Texas. Two of her children moved with her, Lillie INGRAM who married Kendrick CALDWELL, and James William INGRAM who I am told, ran a small business in Texarkana. Any information on this family would be most welcome. We have found very little information on them anywhere. Thanks!

MCDANIEL, SMITH
posted by Carmen McDaniel Forbes on Wednesday, March 18, 1998

Still trying to find out about the MCDANIEL's in Bowie County by 1880. Through cousins, I have heard that there are still ancestors (McDANIELS) residing in Bowie County that are related. They are descended from Archibald V. McDANIEL and his son Napoleon Henry (N.H.)McDANIEL. I have them traced back to 1850 in Lincoln County, Tenn., but am at a stone wall! Do not know where Archibald V. or his first wife Margaret Mary are buried. Did they die in Bowie Co. or Ark.? I am in possession of family Bible and it shows Margaret dying in 1879. Have N.H. and wife Martha Virgina SMITH's graves in Bowie Co. Anyone have any clues? Archibald V. McDANIEL is listed as an original land owner in Bowie Co. Says he bought the land from the R.R. right of way. Would really appreciate any clues. Thanks, Carmen McDaniel Forbes Email geneforbes@worldnet.att.net

posted by Dorothy Britt Garrison on Wednesday, March 25, 1998

I would like to locate relatives of any RECORD family member who had ancestors living in the Hooks, Tx. area during the 1880's. Also anyone from the CULBERSON - CUTHBERTSON family. These were related families to my mother, Bertha Record, dtr. of Joseph S. Record. His father, James Sian Record supposedly was killed by a train in New Boston, in 1887, I have not been able to document this fact.He is buried in Tiller-Elliot cemetery in the red River Army Depot. I tried to find his grave this summer without any luck, I would like to get a picture of the tombstone.
