Cornelius Franklin Wells Family

Cornelius Franklin "Neil" Wells, 1851-1933, was born in Springfield, Robertson County, Tennessee and buried in Centeridge Cemetery, Maud, Bowie County, Texas.  Neil was the second son of Henry Wells, 1822-1898, and Miriam Stark, 1826-after 1900.  They lived and died in Robertson County, Tennessee.  Neil Wells married Margaret T Walton in Dickson County, Tennessee about 1869.  Margaret Walton, 1853-1931, was the daughter of Jesse H Walton and Elizabeth "Betty" Hagewood. 

Neil and Margaret Wells and their six children left Dickson County, Tennessee about 1904 in a covered wagon to come to Texas.  Neil had an older brother, William Walter Wells, who was already in the area of Brushy, Texas between New Waverly and Huntsville in Walker County.  After living in Walker County for about a year, they moved to Maud, Texas and remained there.  Most of the family is buried in Centeridge Cemetery in Maud.

The six children of Neil and Margaret Wells are:
1. William Jesse, born 1870 Dickson County, Tennessee, married Nancy Ann "Nannie" Comperry in 1897, died 1930 in Maud.  Nannie, 1883-1963, was the
     youngest daughter of Robert and Martha F Comperry.  They had 12 children.
2. Rose Ida, 1873-1961, married John A Mathis in Dickson County, Tennessee in 1898.  They had nine children.
3. Cornelius Franklin "Jack" Jr, 1875-1946, married Telie Holley in 1910 in Bowie County, Texas.  They had two children.
4. Fannie A, 1883-1964, married Benjamin Holley in Bowie County in 1910.  They had four children.
5. Era, 1889-1937, married H C "Crit" Warren in 1911 in Bowie County.
6. Sally Betty, 1896-1973, died in Dallas, Texas.  Sally married Denson "Sarge" Griffin and had one daughter.  Sally married a second time to a Stark, then in
     1923 she married third Ed Cornelius in Bowie County.  In about 1954 she married a fourth time to George Bevill in Dallas, Texas.

The Wells, Comperry, Walton, Stark & Link families have been in Robertson and Dickson Counties, Tennessee since 1792 coming from North and South Carolina after the Revolution.
