The Pingenot Family

The Nicolas Pingenot family is listed in the United States Federal census for Bandera County in 1860. 64 year old Nicolas and his sons, 26 year old August and 20 year old Celestin, were all born in France. Their occupations are shown as laborer, farmer and stockraiser. In the same year, August is shown as a member of a company of "minute men" formed to protect the settlers of the young county.

In the 1870 Federal Census, brother August and Celestin are still living and farming in Bandera County. Father Nicolas has presumably died. Later that year, Celestin will leave Bandera County for Uvalde County, and will later be cited as the founder of the Cline community in that county.

In 1880, August is still farming in Bandera County. Celestin is raising stock in Uvalde County. On July 9, 1884, August received a patent for 320 acres of land in Bandera County.

In 1900, August continues to farm in Bandera County. Celestin is living in Uvalde County along with wife Nina and sons John, August C. and Eddie.

The Pingenot brothers appear in their respective counties for the last time in the 1910 Federal Census.

August Pingenot, born 28 Dec 1831 in France, died 20 May 1915 in Bandera County and is buried in the Bandera City Cemetery. He apparently never married. (Information from Texas Death Certificate)

Celestin Pingenot, born 12 Feb 1839 in France, died 18 Nov 1918 in Uvalde County, Texas and is buried in the Uvalde cemetery. (Information from Texas Death Certificate)

Pingenot descendants still live in the areas settled by their ancestors.
