In the 1870 Federal Census for Bandera County, the family is still living in the county. Cosgrove children in the household are John, Jr., Julian and Mary. Also living in the family are Mary Hoult and Joseph Hoult. John's occupation is still shown as farming. The Agricultural census for that year shows he was farming 165 acres with 111 assorted head of livestock.
This particular family was not located in the 1880 census records, but in 1900, the widowed Julia Cosgrove was living in the household of son John in Medina County, Texas.
Online family trees state that John Cosgrove died in Burnet County, Texas in 1873, and that Julia died in 1906, also in Burnet County. The Hold/Hoult children listed in earlier census records were supposedly Julia's children from a previous marriage.
John Cosgrove, Jr. married Olive Rebecca Clark, daughter of Amasa and Eliza Clark. Together they had at least six known children: John III, S. Roland, Sally, Robert, Fred and Eva Mae.
John Cosgrove III died in 1919 from heat prostration. S. Roland Cosgrove died in 1907 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Hondo, Texas.
Sally Cosgrove married Edwin Earl Parsons and died in 1993. She and her husband are buried in Bandera Cemetery.
Robert Cosgrove married Gladys Parsons. He died in 1979 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery along with his wife Gladys, son Robert Lee Cosgrove and daughter-in-law Katherine Schlaudt Cosgrove.
Fred Cosgrove died in 1984 and is buried in Bandera Cemetery.
Eva Mae Cosgrove married Bernard E. Duke. She died in 1930 and is buried in Bandera Cemetery along with her husband.
Other than the 1870 Federal Census, no further record of Julien or Mary Cosgrove has been found as of this writing.
